Homebirth VBA3C

Q: I’m expecting my fifth child. We are working with our community’s only certified homebirth midwife. The pregnancy is going well, the only catch is I’ve had three c-sections for three different reasons already. What suggestions do you have to increase the likelihood of a natural, vaginal delivery this time? Any advice, support, and encouragement is welcome. Thank you.

From Tracy

A: Dear Tracy,
First of all congratulations on your pregnancy and for taking strong steps
towards your HBAC (Home Birth After Cesarean).
A healthy diet is very important to promote healthy tissues and a lot of
trust and confidence in your ability to give birth vaginally, as well as in your
midwife.
Make plans to meet with your back-up doctor to ask any questions you might
have in the case his/her help become necessary.
Find support online (which you are) from other women who have had vaginal
births after cesareans at home.
Surround yourself with people that believe in you and in the choices you are
making.
Please keep us posted!
In health and support from one VBAC mom to another!

I had two cesareans (2002, 2005) and in April of 2007, I delivered our second son at home underwater! Then in June 2008, we had a hospital vaginal delivery for our stillborn daughter, born at about 5 1/2 months. We went to the hospital becuase our midwife worried about too much bleeding. Its important to note our hospital stillbirth was very much like a homebirth, with just my husband, a wonderful nurse, and myself present. I called the nurse in about 4 minutes before the baby was born. There were no monitors, no IVs, nothing. I called all the shots and delivered standing up in my own clothes.

You CAN do it! I’ve heard of women having hom vbacs after five, six, and seven cesarens. I even heard one story of home vbac after 8.
