ACNM Responds to AMA resolutions

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

You may know that in recent weeks, the American Medical Association adopted new resolutions supporting state legislative efforts that would restrict women’s access to home birth and calling for greater physician control over midwifery practice. I wanted you to know that ACNM has responded to these misguided resolutions with a strongly worded letter to the AMA. Accompanying the letter are a series of addenda addressing some of the key policy questions raised by the resolutions‹such as the abundant research demonstrating the safety of planned home birth, a woman’s right to choose her site of birth, why women choose home birth and how the medical community can improve continuity of
care for all women regardless of birth site.
