Midwives in Chicago

Q: Hello - I am having a hard time finding a midwife, do you by any chance know anyone in particular in the Chicagoland area that is a midwife? I have had no luck with the online direcories, if you can refer someone and provde contact information that would be great. Thank you!

A: Dear Lori, There are several Certified Nurse Midwife practices in the Chicago area. Many can be found on the website www.birthlink.com. It would help to know if you are looking for a hospital-based midwife or a home birth midwife. There are CNMs in the majority of local hospitals but only a few home birth CNMs in the Chicago area (A Woman’s Place and New Life Midwifery). Since CPMs are still illegal in the state of Illinois, home birth options remain limited until legislation is passed to make them legal and more accessible.
