Irregular Periods and Breastfeeding
Q: I am currently breastfeeding my 9-month old son. I got my first period back in January and then again in February but it hasn’t come again for March or this month. I have been having some cramping lately. I have taken a pregnancy test (over the counter) and it is negative. Is this normal?

A: Yes, it is quite common to have irregular periods in the first year after delivery, especially if you are breastfeeding. Of course you should probably repeat the home pregnancy test in a week or so, as a very early pregnancy will not show positive immediately on a urine test, but generally they are quite reliable.
